Chat
The assistant at /resident/chat — the one place a resident talks to WorkCore.
Chat is where you tell WorkCore what is wrong. The assistant asks a few questions, and it is the assistant — not you — that opens the maintenance request. This page covers the surface; for the task, see Report an issue.
At a glance
| Where | /resident/chat |
| Who | Residents who have accepted AI consent. Without it the address sends you back to /resident/consent |
| What you can do | Start a conversation, describe a problem, attach up to 5 photos per message, watch the reply arrive, reopen past conversations |
| What you cannot do yet | See a confirmation card when a request is opened, jump from a conversation to the request it produced, or search your chat history |
Before you start
Chat opens only after you press I agree on the consent page. Revoking consent later locks it again until you accept a second time.
What you see
On a laptop your conversations are listed on the left under Conversations; on a phone they are behind the Current chat selector at the top. Start new chat empties the panel but creates nothing — a conversation exists once you send its first message. It gets its title a few seconds after the first reply; until then the row reads New chat.
In the message box, Enter sends, Shift + Enter starts a new line, and there is no character limit. The + (Add photo) button attaches images — see Photos. While a reply arrives the box locks, its placeholder reading Assistant is responding…, a Thinking… indicator sits in the thread, and the reply types itself out; when it finishes the box unlocks and takes the cursor back.

The Search chat history box on the phone view is a label, not a field. There is nothing to type into it, and no chat search anywhere in the portal — to find an old conversation, scroll the list and read the titles and timestamps.
What the assistant can do for you
It can classify what you describe, open a maintenance request, and check the status of a request you already have. Some steps need your property team's sign-off first: the thread then shows an amber Approval pending card reading Waiting for property-team approval, and the reply stops there. Nothing is lost — the team picks it up from their side.
Confirming a request was actually opened
When the assistant opens a request, the only sign in the chat is the assistant saying so in its reply. Check it landed by opening Work Orders in the sidebar; a new request appears there within about a minute, or immediately if you reload.

Chat shows no confirmation card for a request it opened, and a conversation carries no link to the request that came out of it — or the other way round. Treat them as separate surfaces: chat is where you describe the problem, your work-order list is where you follow it.
If something looks wrong
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| How can I help? on an empty panel | This conversation has no messages yet | Describe the problem in a sentence or two; the assistant asks for the rest |
| The assistant could not finish with a Needs retry badge | The reply broke off partway | Send it again. If it keeps failing, contact your property team — for anything urgent, do that first |
| That step didn't complete with a Couldn't finish badge | One step the assistant tried did not go through | Try again in the same conversation, repeating what you already told it |
| Waiting for property-team approval on an amber card | The assistant paused for your property team | Nothing to do; they continue it from their side |
| Loading conversation… that does not clear | The thread never arrived | Reload the page |
